Since the solution's gone-live, Von Maur has seen the impact it was hoping for. "We're simply able to look at our business in a different way. We have better visibility into our basic stock. We see how things are trending by store, and we know we're carrying the right amount of stock at the right time," explained Place. The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) provides quality goods and services at a savings to active duty service people, reservists, retirees and their families. NEXCOM, a $3 billion retailer, is the headquarters for NEX (big-box-like retailer) stores on U.S. Naval Bases around the world, supporting each store with products and core retail infrastructure. In the summer of 2009, NEXCOM began exploring its options for bringing the 14 Oracle retail modules it had implemented over a six- to seven-year time period up-to-date with Oracle's most current version. "As we began the initial Oracle implementation years ago," explained Cindy Church, VP of Applications for NEXCOM, "our plan was to bring everything up to a consistent and current version once we had all the modules up and running." According to Church, the challenge with a plan such as this is determining how to approach the upgrade piece by piece, given the breadth and depth of their Oracle retail system. "We have many, many different components to our system," Church explained, "so we have to determine an approach that allows us to upgrade them one at a time without upsetting the whole thing." Working closely with Oracle, Church and her team put out a unique RFP to top Oracle retail systems integrators. "We weren't looking for a proposal for the actual upgrade," said Church. "We needed someone to help us define how we get there, what's the best approach, the value, the timeline, etc. In a way, this was a proposal to create a proposal." For NEXCOM, finding a partner with deep retail expertise was critical. "We often find vendors that have great military background," Church said, "but we're a bit of a different animal. We're a retail business, so our needs are quite different from the typical military IT project." NEXCOM selected Logic to create this strategic assessment and plan. "We went with Logic, because of their extensive retail and Oracle experience," explained Church. "They've done upgrades like this before - so they bring valuable expertise and perspective to the table." The Logic and NEXCOM team worked through an 18-week process to provide a holistic assessment of the current situation and create a strategic upgrade plan for the entire NEXCOM system. To build a realistic plan, Logic and the NEXCOM team had to work very intimately through the entire process. "We have a very good partnership," said Church. "They do what they say they're going to do. That's important. And they were very open, honest and upfront about situations they encountered. They brought great retail background, and they're so well-versed on the platform - from merchandising to supply chain. They did an excellent job of guiding us, getting to the right questions and then finding the answer." With the assessment and recommendation complete, the ball is now in NEXCOM's court to work with the group's leadership and put the plan into action, and Church is confident NEXCOM has the information it needs to make smart choices, decide on timing and secure a budget. "We came out with a very detailed picture of our current situation and what we need to do to move forward with our plan," Church said. "We have exactly what we need to make decisions."

Bill Szlaius

CEO and Co-Founder

Bill Szlaius co-founded Logic in 1997 after more than ten years in IT development and project management. His experience included work in the retail and healthcare industries with Oracle and other organizations. Bill originally conceived of Logic as a general supplier of software application development services with both onshore and offshore capabilities. After the Y2K bubble and the IT crash of 2001, Bill saw the need to specialize and focus Logic's business to differentiate it for future growth. Upon reviewing the IT landscape as well as vertical markets, he chose to partner with Oracle Retail®. Bill recognized not only a solid partner in Oracle, but also a market opportunity. Oracle had been a supplier to large retailers, but as the company continued to acquire and expand its retail business solutions, Bill knew it would need to develop a mid-market retail base. Logic got started by focusing its efforts on serving these mid-level retailers. In 2005, Bill brought in Amber Naqvi to help fulfill the new vision for Logic. From 2005 to 2010 the company grew its staff by 85% and revenue by 70%. Prabhu Kumar co-founded Logic in 1997 after spending ten years in software development and project management. Early in Logic's history PK managed US operations, playing multiple roles in operations, finance, human resources and service delivery. He has led the technology teams in delivering solutions to multiple clients over the years. In 2006, PK returned to his native country and founded Logic's Indian operations in Chennai. Today he manages a team of 40 employees housed in Chennai and Bangalore. Logic/India provides 24/7 production support for Oracle Retail applications to retailers across the globe. PK has developed Logic's relationship with Oracle in India by working closely with the development and sustaining engineering teams of Oracle RGBU located in Bangalore. In addition to providing off-shore resources on Logic's Oracle Retail implementation projects throughout the world, Logic/India provides full-service project implementation and support to Indian retailers. PK graduated from the National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India, with a BS in computer science and he holds an MS in computer science from North Dakota State University. He is also working on a lifetime dream to establish a non-profit, K-12 educational institution in his hometown of Trichy, India.

Amber Naqvi

President

Amber Naqvi had deep knowledge of retail systems when he joined Logic in 2005. His experience included implementation of Oracle Retail's® merchandising, planning and business intelligence software as a consultant with IBM and Accenture. Amber joined Logic to help CEO Bill Szlaius realize his vision for a retail-focused IT consultancy when the company had 20 employees and revenue of about $7 million. Under the first five years of Amber's leadership, the company grew its staff to 150 + and revenue to $23 million. Amber took responsibility for developing Logic's proprietary methodology for implementing and optimizing Oracle Retail's solutions for retailers. The methodology has proven itself repeatable, scalable and successful over time as Logic can boast 100% success with its retail projects. Together with Bill, Amber also developed a go-to-market strategy that focused on helping Oracle Retail grow with mid-market retailers. Logic filled that niche and has since grown to be a leading implementer of Oracle Retail solutions, serving retailers of all sizes, all over the world. Amber notes that, although his title has changed and Logic has more than tripled its staff and revenue during his tenure, his job has remained the same - to build Logic's brand and standing in the marketplace. Pedro Silva joined Logic in 2010 as a vice president with profit and loss responsibility for Latin America and Europe. He heads up Logic's offices in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Oporto, Portugal. Pedro's retail and consumer package goods experience spans more than 15 years, including executive positions with Wipro and Enabler (which was acquired by Wipro in 2006). Pedro has been involved in a wide variety of Oracle ERP implementations that have encompassed IT strategic consulting, change management, and application support and maintenance. As an entrepreneur, he founded HumanCap, a human resource search and consulting firm that continues its operations in Portugal. Pedro's experience is multi-national, including work in Europe, the United States, and throughout Latin America and Southeast Asia. He speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian. Pedro's passion for leading and growing knowledge teams, helping them to align their efforts with client goals, drives his efforts to serve Logic's clients. Hired in 2006 to further develop Logic's Oracle Retail® implementation practice, Steve White now oversees Logic's work force of 150 + consultants throughout the world. His background includes work for Bearingpoint in their retail consulting practice, time with retail supply chain software company Armature, and senior management roles with Booker, the leading food wholesaler in the United Kingdom. Steve manages the deployment of Logic project teams throughout the world and is responsible for employee advancement through Logic's internal development programs. He works with clients to ensure that Logic's delivery approach and implementation systems meet the client's business objectives and map to their existing IT and business plans. Steve has been vital to Logic's growth as he has leads consultants and clients through proposals, project implementations, testing and "go-lives". Today Steve is focused on growing Logic's influence and business in South America, Asia and Europe. Chris Tollefson

In 2008, Logic hired Chris Tollefson to lead its sales and marketing efforts. Chris had 18 + years of experience working with retailers to improve their operational performance and profitability. His background also included developing and managing sales teams for Dresser Inc., Tokheim Corp., and others. He had successfully managed account relationships for national retailers BP, Holiday, SuperValu and Cenex, as well as regional marketers like Wallis Oil and Lakeside Petroleum. Chris's strength is in developing not just client relationships, but successful partnerships. At Logic, he was tasked with constructing the sales and marketing programs from the ground up. In his first two years Chris built a sales organization that helped grow revenue from $14 million to $23 million, and he projects another 25% growth in 2011, to $30 million. Chris's role at Logic has expanded to include profit/loss responsibility for Logic's business in the Pacific Rim. He oversaw the opening of the company's Australian office to serve this geography in early 2011. A native of Minnesota, Chris graduated Cum Laude from St. Cloud State University.

Mike Miller

Vice President of Pre-Sales and Marketing

Mike was hired by Logic in 2010 to develop a standard approach for collaboratively working with clients to define and position retail solution roadmaps built on the Oracle Retail application suite. With more than 15 years of Oracle Retail system experience, he has been able to align the best elements of Logic's sales and delivery organizations with future retail trends, ensuring Logic's capabilities and market position remain ahead of its competition. This includes Logic's own solutions as well as joint programs with Oracle Retail and Logic's other partners. Mike's deep understanding of retail solutions includes prior positions as a system developer and architect, project and account manager, president of a systems implementation firm, and merchandise operations manager for a retail client. He has also worked with domestic and international retailers, and has led onshore and offshore teams. This broad experience allows him to work with all levels of a retail organization, ensuring that requirements from all stakeholders are aligned, and an optimal solution is established to support strategic future growth for all types and sizes of retailers. Mike graduated Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.

Infrastructure Consultant
